Dear Editor With Barack Obama getting in as president I know that he has a big mess to clean up .I hope that he can stop the war and make the people grow up.I hope that it will bring the markets back up so that the farmers and keep on farming to feed the world.Because right now the markets are terrible and the farmers need those markets to go back up.The fertilizers prices have not come down and chemicals prices and now they talk of a shortage of diseal fuel like guys grow up who is playing with who ,like they are sick ,very one has to survive .If you dont have the farmers people will not survive and that is how it goes .When the grain prices where high they werent they were where they should have been so the farmers could pay for there fertilizers and chemical prices. This summer and fall the fuel prices and chemical prices is what killing the farmers. It was costing farmers $30,000.00 to $50,000.00 dollars for one to two months for fuel to take off the crops and field work which normally it would cost them the whole year for some farmers .Some farmers dont even know if they can get operating loans from the banks for next yearto keep on farming and goes for everyone ,there could be a greater shortage of food if the farmers and not keep on farming and a greater food shortage in the stores. It is also the credit companies that is killing everyone also. They are the ones that are making all of the money and chemical companies fertilizers companies fuel and gas companies they are all making the big money and not the farmers like everyone thinks that they are .People have to start to relize that it is not easy to farm in this generation .Iwish that building the new sport complex that they would build it in a few more years with the way the economy is right now but go figure .Since that the new sport complex is going on very ones taxes does that mean when there is event on there that it is going to be free for everyone and what are they going to do with the old arena no one has said what they are going to do with the building or have they .Every one in the Portage area are suffering with the economy but no one cares but I do care and it is high time everyone else does to .Lets show everyone in the Portage area does care what is going to happen with the economy and whether everyone is going to have jobs or not to go to and how are business going to survive where is the money going to come from and so forth.Pam Pugh

I see that there is no gas price-war on here in P.la P. where the price remains almost 10 cents above average and no one in the industry cares.
I am advising my friends etc. to shop at RED RIVER CO-OP in Headingly when travelinhg because they have the lowest price enroute. They don't gouge their customers as they do here in Portage.

Dear Editor with high chemical and fertilizer and fuel prices and grain prices keep falling and the Portage farmers wonder how they are going to keep on farming. Is it going to be like the dirty thirties or not that is what it seem like is the depression coming there is alot of farmers depressed already the farmers have to have the grain prices go back up in order to keep on farming and that is not just here but all over Canada Steven Harperandthe rest of thepolitians never said how they were going to help the farmers Iam very disappointed in them That should be the governments top priority since they put food on everyones table everyday So I hope the politians help the farmers because they are in desperate need.Is the farmers going have to go back to sumerfollowing that means there will be less food in the country. So I hope that the politians realize how important this situation really is ,Sincerly Pam Pugh

Shane Gibson's article on "gas price-reduction" doesn't go far enough. If Mr.Gibson were a good investigative reporter he would say that gasoline prices have dropped a bit but are still inflated by the gas stations(who price fix) and the distributors who take advantage of every little crisis that comes along to raise the price. Why does the price not drop according to Market Value ofcrude oil? The current price of crude should have the gas prices less than $1.00 , perhaps at 95 cents.
How aboutThe Graphic doing some in depth reporting to see why the prices remain high?

Dear Editor After having Cancer myself and loosing family membersand friends to Cancer this year .I want to know and other people as well what has happened to the Docotrs in the United States that knew how to cure Cancer, and why did the drug companies get rid of these doctors that knew how to cure Cancer. Please bring back these Doctors from these other countries where the drug companies have sent them to so that they can cure people .We know that they know how to cure people there is so much money being spent on Cancer and nothing is being done only the drug companies are getting richer and the chemical companies are getting richer .So bring back these doctors back to the USA or to Canada we know that you are out there and so do the drug companies.Stop all of these Billions of dollars being wasted over nothing .People these doctors know how to cure Cancer but it is the drug companies that dont want the doctors around that is the reason why people arent being treated the way they should be that is the truth. The drug companies would not be making the big money .What happen to the doctors in the sixties that knew how to treat Cancer he was sent to another country because the drug companies knew that he knew to much in how to treat cancer .Sincerly Pam Pugh

I'd like to applaude the Daily Graphic for their sensitive and respectful coverage of the death of Joe-Joe, Joe Gregorchuk. He truly was an icon in our small city for over 35(?) years. Joe was one of those special people who had a smile for everyone, friend or stranger; his presence will be tremendously missed. The Daily Graphic has personified the true essence of a community newspaper. Kudos!!

Bravo to the Portage Daily Graphic for refusing to run the ad from PETA, comparing Tim McLean's murder to slaughtering animals for meat. That was very insensitive. I'm an animal rights activist and ethical vegetarain. I'm also a PETA member but won't be joining again when my membership is up for renewal. I've also emailed them on this and their replay was to try and defend their actions. All they've done is alienated themselves from the public. I just hope they lose a lot of support from activists like myself, they might wake up, issue an apology to the McLean family and fire Bruce Friedrich.

After learning about PETA'S attempt to use the tragic, violent and senseless murder Mr. Tim McLean. I was absolutely disgusted. I'm all for shocking people to get a point across, however, they've done nothing but show their own insensitivity. This group should not be spokespeople for anyone or anything, as they clearly lack basic human emotion.

Kudos to "The Daily Graphic" for not allowing their absurd add to run, and cause additional grief and heartache to Mr. McLeans family. It certainly is good to hear that some people can still retain their convictions, and run their business, all the while using good judgement in their decisions.

I never had much respect for PETA because of its perverted style (like going naked) of getting attention. But drawing a parallel between tragic loss of an innocent young in the hand of a fanatic and animals in slaughter house has crossed the line. Henceforth, I shall oppose this group at every available opportunity.

Thanks

I just felt the need to state that many of us commend you for your decision not to run the PETA ad. It was a disgraceful and disgusting attempt at publicity and they have hit a new low. Thank you so much for denying them the ability to run this ad. Our thoughts are with Tim's family and friends at this difficult time.
